The Pride of Bronco Country
Denton High School Band Program
Encompassing a marching band, two concert bands, a percussion program, a jazz ensemble, and both a color guard and winter guard, the Denton High School Band Program is a dynamic organization where each member’s unique talents and perspectives play a vital role in advancing our mission and enriching our legacy.
The Denton High School Band Program is a place for everyone to belong.
The Bronco Marching Band
The Denton HS Bronco Marching Band is made up of students from all concerts bands, percussion, and color guard. The Bronco Band has a long history of great traditions, pride, and excellence. The marching band performs at all Denton HS pep rallies, Denton HS varsity football games, marching band contests and exhibitions, and other events.
Concert Bands
The Denton High School Band Program comprises two concert band ensembles: Wind Ensemble (Varsity Band) and Wind Symphony (Non-Varsity Band). Every student who auditions for the Denton High School Band will be placed in an ensemble. Ensemble placement is based on a multitude of criteria including the audition itself, participation in the All–Region and Solo and Ensemble Contests, participation in private lessons, and general conduct and character throughout the school year.
Jazz Lab Bands
The Denton High School Jazz Band Program consists of two lab bands. Ensemble placement is based on an audition and interview process which will take place in the late fall. Both jazz ensembles perform at UIL Solo & Ensemble, the Jazz Concert, various Jazz Festivals, the Spring Concert, as well as other civic events.
Percussion Program
The Denton HS Percussion Program offers percussion students a wide range of experiences to flourish not only as a group but as individual musicians. In the Fall, Bronco Percussionists participate in the Bronco Band Drum Line either in the battery or the front ensemble. In the Spring, the percussion students are divided into smaller groups to participate as the percussion sections of each of the UIL competing concert bands. Denton HS Percussionists also get the opportunity to compete in the TMEA All-State Band process and the UIL Texas Solo and Ensemble Contest, the Denton HS musical, and the Bronco Jazz Band.
Color Guard & Winter Guard
An important component of the Denton HS Band Program is our Color Guard and Winter Guard. During the Fall semester, our Color Guard performs as an integral part of Bronco Marching Band at every competition, game, pep rally, and other events. During the Spring semester, they operate as their own entity, known as the Winter Guard, competing at indoor competitions across North Texas. Performers of the Color Guard and Winter Guard receive dance and movement training and learn to perform with equipment including flags, rifles, and sabres.
