Attendance Policy

A student is considered tardy if they are not present at the start of rehearsal. A student is considered absent if they arrive 30 minutes or more after the scheduled start time.

A parent or guardian must complete the Absence Request Form (see below):

  • Four weeks prior to any performance for the absence to be considered excused.

  • At least 24 hours in advance for any rehearsal.

Doctor’s notes should be emailed or hand-delivered to the appropriate director.

Considered Excused / Partial Absences:

  • Family emergency

  • Illness

  • Religious observance

  • College visit

  • DISD activity or sporting event (excludes regular practices)

  • Other extenuating circumstances with director approval

Not Considered Excused:

  • Student jobs

  • Lack of arranged transportation

  • Non-school-sponsored activities

  • SAT or ACT test preparation

  • Driver’s education courses

Unexcused absences or tardies may affect a student’s grade, part assignment, and/or performance status. The directors reserve the right to make the final determination on whether an absence is excused or unexcused.
